ILOILO City – The mushroom industry in Western Visayas is rising as more and more farmers are getting assistance from the government and private stakeholders.
Recently, farmers in the region completed their training on Community-based Mushroom Production Project (CBMPP) in 25 sites.
In a press release sent to Panay News, 25 training sites were finished. Eighteen came from the province of Iloilo, three in Capiz, two each in Aklan and Antique, and one in Guimaras.
A total of 1,250 bottle spawns were produced by the project. These were used in the production of mushroom fruiting bags for trainings and growers.
Eden B. Panisales, in-charge of the project’s On-Station Modules, said the entire team has produced 24,150 fruiting.
He also added that nine new innovations in mushroom processing can be made by an entrepreneur like mushroom empanada, patty, siomai, crispy mushroom, embutido, tempura, puto-pao, atchara/pickled mushroom and ice cream.
According to James Eral Ogatis of the Department of Agriculture, the products can be bought at Gaisano City Mall in La Paz district. Its production area, meanwhile, is located in Alta Tierra village, Jaro./PN
