ILOILO City – A 24-year-old farmer disappeared while crossing a flooded ricefield in Barangay Daplas, Dao, Capiz.
As of this writing, Leonel Barona of Barangay Agtanguay, Dao was yet to be found.
Police said Barona crossed a paddy field inundated with water around 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 17.
Citing statements from witnesses, police said Barona was not able to reach the other side of the ricefield; the strong water current swept him away.
Noting the inclement weather on Jan. 16, the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) in Region 6 reminded the public, especially those living in low-lying areas, to be vigilant over possible flooding.
Director Rosario Cabrera said people should continuously be guided by advisories from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
Since Monday, Western Visayas’ skies were cloudy. The region also experienced moderate to occasionally heavy rains with thunderstorms./PN
