ILOILO City – A 24-year-old fisherman was found hanging from the ceiling of their nipa hut in Barangay Guibongan, Miag-ao, Iloilo.
The young man previously tried – but failed – to kill himself by slashing his wrist, according to Senior Inspector Cyril Octavio, Miag-ao police chief.
The family believed the fisherman committed suicide. They asked for privacy at this difficult time of loss, the police said.
The young man was found dead around 6 a.m. on Jan. 19 by a relative.
Police said the fisherman used a nylon rope around his neck.
Aside from rope marks around the man’s neck, the police found no other signs of injuries on the body, said Octavio.
Family problems may have driven the young man to end his life, he added./PN
