ILOILO City – The Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (Piston) Panay will not join the transport strike that another transport organization will stage on Feb. 6.
Stop and Go Transport Coalition has not coordinated with the local group, according to Piston-Panay chairman Edgar Salarda.
“Wala may natabo nga istoryahanay sa part sang Piston parte sa coordinated nga protest,” Salarda told Panay News. “Sa subong wala pa gid makapakig-angot ang Stop and Go.”
Stop and Go Transport Coalition is headed by Jun Magno.
Salarda said they welcomed Stop and Go’s plan but stressed they may not take part in it.
“Indi kami [dayon] maka-decide kay siyempre ginaplanuhan pa inâ sang Piston-Panay,” he said. “Kabudlay kon wala koordinasyon. Magaluntad sila sang strike, tapos sa amon part, indi kami kabalo kon ano ang specific nga plano nila.”
Salarda acknowledged that the planned transport strike was to call against the phaseout of old jeepneys.
“Isa sa rason sang pagpatigayon sang untat-byahe ang pagpamatok sa phaseout sang jeepneys,” he said.
Just last week, drivers affiliated with Piston-Panay stage a rally in front of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board Region 6 office in Barangay Tabuc Suba, Jaro district against the proposed phasing out of jeepneys 15 years old and older.
Salarda then said the phaseout would displace jeepney drivers and operators and their families./PN
