ILOILO – Mayor Alex Centena of Calinog expressed confidence of being cleared of the accusation linking him to illegal drugs as protector of traffickers.
He said one of the proofs he presented to the regional Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) was his Statement of Assets Liabilities and Net Worth showing no hidden or unexplained wealth.
The sources of his income were legitimate businesses and not illegal drugs, said Centena who owns a farm.
“Ang tanan gin clear nila. Gin base nila sa SALN ko, sa negosyo ko, ang investigation,” Centena stressed.
In August last year, President Rodrigo Duterte named Centena a drug protector along with three other mayors in Iloilo – Jed Patrick Mabilog of Iloilo City, Mariano Malones of Maasin and Sigfriedo Betita of Carles. All of them denied the President’s allegation.
“Sila (CIDG) ang nag imbestigar sa akon sa Camp Crame. May ara na documents sa akon pero ina may final pa nga decision,” said Centena.
He also said he failed to attend the country’s mayors’ meeting with President Duterte on Jan. 11 in Malacañang because he was hospitalized for pneumonia.
“Ara ko ‘ya sa Iloilo Mission Hospital,” he said.
Centena also revealed that even before the President’s accusation, he already had 20 drug personalities in Calinog arrested and charged in court.
“Diri sa amon indi rampant ang droga. May nagagamit pero subong natapna na sila because sa campaign man namon,” he stressed./PN
