ILOILO – Two policemen and an illegal drug suspect were injured when a police patrol vehicle fell off a road shoulder in Barangay Poblacion, Tibiao, Antique.

Police Officer 3 Rene Bandiola of the Sebaste police station sustained a fractured right shoulder. He was confined in the Antique Medical Center.

Police Officer 3 Eugene Isigne of the same police station and crime suspect Angelito Patron, also of Sebaste, had minor injuries. They were taken to the Pedro L. Gindap Municipal Hospital in Barbaza.

The accident happened while they were on their way to a court in the capital town of San Jose to file a charge against Patron around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Police Officer 2 Rolly Sumadia, also of Sebaste, said the officers and Patron were on board a Mahindra sport utility vehicle, driven by Police Officer 1 Jaime Bendol, negotiating a curved portion of the highway when an old man suddenly crossed.

“Bendol avoided the old man, but the vehicle overshot the road shoulder and fell five feet down as a result,” said Sumadia.

Their companions Senior Police Officer 4 Pablito Ebon and Police Officer 2 Joe Ann Encina were unhurt./PN
