ILOILO City – The regional office of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Western Visayas is looking beyond just the physical improvement of its area to better serve Ilonggos.
Aside from public comfort and convenience, PSA Region 6 director Fred Sollesta said they also hold capacity-building training to frontline personnel on how to deal with clients effectively.
PSA is the former National Statistics Office.
With the training, Sollesta said, their personnel would be able to give correct advice to clients who may have problems with their documents.
“We want to equip them (frontliners) with skills, especially on how the internal processes work. We want our clients to feel that we are addressing their problems right,” he added.
Daily, the PSA regional office accommodates around 1,000 clients. The number peaks during the summer period due to requests for birth certificates as a school requirement during enrollment and for those taking board exams.
The transaction area is now fully air-conditioned, making it comfortable for clients while waiting for their documents to be released.
In the “near future,” Sollesta said, they will be migrating to a new system with the use of an information technology platform to hasten the processing of the civil registry record.
Under the new Civil Registry System, they envisioned that the documents will be released immediately after paying the necessary fees.
He also said existing services will not be affected during the migration process. It is expected to be operational in the next 18 months.
In addition, PSA is also gearing to open provincial offices, which is expected to decongest the number of clients at the regional office.
Currently, only Aklan has an existing provincial office. The Iloilo provincial office is situated in the same building with the regional office.
The proposed opening of provincial offices is expected to be completed in three to four years. (PNA)
