MANILA – Cops who will undergo training anew as part of the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) internal cleansing efforts, can be reinstated in their previous posts following complaints that Mindanao has become a dumping ground for rogue cops, National Capital Region police director Oscar Albayalde said.
According to Albayalde, a total of 156 cops have been transferred to Mindanao since July 1 and will retrain 378 policemen, some of which are involved in certain crimes.
Of the 378 cops, 167 are being monitored by the Counter-Intelligence Task Force after being reported for cases of extortion, illegal drugs, and bribery for the release of certain prisoners.
“Lahat na po ito kautusan ng ating chief PNP ito kaya po tayo nauna na tayong nagbigay ng compliance sa kautusan na ito,” Albayalde said in an interview on dzMM Saturday.
After training, some of the cops can be reinstated to their previous assignments while others will be transferred to Mindanao.
“Pwede po silang maibalik sa kanilang mga dating assignment, meron din being transferred to Mindanao kasi madami na rin tayong nakukuhang complaint na bakit daw bagsakan sila ng mga suspected scalawags,” Albayalde said.
Several officials, including Senate president Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III and Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao governor Mujiv Hataman, questioned the practice of re-assigning alleged rogue cops to the strife-torn south.
Training for cops will be at a minimum of one and a half month, Albayalde said, noting that the PNP may revive its “school of transformation.”
The NCRPO chief also noticed that most of the rogue cops appear to have come from Quezon City and floated the idea of replacing cops suspected to be involved in illegal activities.
“Minsan ho talaga hindi mo naman ma-identify yung mga tao just to remove them from their sphere of influence, mas maganda po na palitan na itong mga suspected na involve nga sa mga illegal activities na ito,” he said.
President Rodrigo Duterte previously warned that cops with suspected links to illegal drugs will be sent to Mindanao, after a spate of corruption controversies bombarded the country’s police force. (ABS-CBN News)
