BACOLOD City – Three separate road accidents in Negros Occidental killed three people and injured four others, police said.

One of the fatalities was a 19-year-old student of Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology in Barangay Old Sagay, Sagay City.

A cargo truck owned by PGO Construction sideswiped Mary Joy Lumanog and 21-year-old classmate Marvie Claro in Hacienda Lourdes, Barangay Rafaela Barrera, Sagay City around 9:40 a.m. on Feb. 11.

Lumanog was injured on the head and body. She was taken to Dr. Vicente Gustilo Memorial District Hospital in Escalante City but was declared “dead on arrival,” said Senior Police Officer 2 Joseph Vargas.

Claro was taken to the same hospital but later transferred to Teresita Jalandoni Memorial Provincial Hospital in Silay City.

Lumanog and Claro were both residents of Barangay Telim, Calatrava town.

They were awaiting a bus ride home after attending a pre-fiesta celebration when a cement-laden cargo truck sideswiped them, initial investigation showed.

Truck driver Nelson Banate, 55, of Barangay 2 Poblacion (Zone 2), Cadiz City, surrendered to the police.

He told investigators he lost control of the truck when its brakes malfunctioned.

In Hinigaran, 30-year-old Bryan Billones died when the motorcycle he was driving crashed into another motorcycle along the national highway in Barangay Narauis around 9:40 a.m. on Feb. 11.

Those on board the other motorcycle — driver Marjun Paniergo, 21, and back riders Marivic Mato, 25, and Rey Nangan, 32, all residents of Hinigaran — were injured.

Billones was a resident of Barangay Pilar, Hinigaran.

Police said Paniergo and his companions were overtaking a cargo truck before the crash.

In Moises Padilla on Saturday evening, a motorcycle crashed into a mahogany tree at a curve in Barangay Guinpana-an.

The driver — JR Camelo, 27, of Barangay Camangcamang, Isabela — died.

He was taken to the Isabela District Hospital but was declared “dead on arrival.”/PN
