ILOILO City – Some 12 years after his arrest warrant was issued, a public school teacher charged with child abuse was finally arrested.
Jonathan Mataquel was caught in Tobias Fornier, Antique on Monday around 9:30 a.m.
Judge Gloria Butay Aglugub of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 254 in Las Piñas City issued the arrest warrant in 2004 yet.
Mataquel was accused of violating Republic Act 7610 (Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act).
As of this writing, it was unclear if Mataquel was able to post bail that the court set at P80,000 for his temporary liberty./PN
