BACOLOD City – Fire struck sugarcane plantations in Barangay Orong, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental. Investigators believe it was arson.

The Bureau of Fire Protection in Kabankalan pegged the cost of damage at P880,000.

The blaze struck a plantation owned by Victoriano Sola Jr. around 10 a.m. on Feb. 14.

Six hectares were razed. The cost of damage was pegged at P800,000.

But police said the fire may have started at the plantation owned by Negros Occidental Provincial Board member Pedro Zayco Jr.

A half-hectare was burned. The cost of damage was estimated at P80,000.

The Fire bureau was still trying to identify the culprit./PN
