THEY do not only protect us from danger. They also serenade us with their lovely voices.
The policemen of Region 6 definitely know how to relay their message in an exceptional way – by composing their own jingles and producing their music videos. Who would have thought that these men in uniform can also be internet sensations?
The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) has launched on social media three campaign jingles on anti-drug, anti-criminality and tourist protection. The anti-criminality campaign video was the most popular of all; it was viewed over 77,000 times and got over 1,600 shares on Facebook.
Its notable lyrics (Mag-report, tumawag o magtext na sa aming mga linya / Maglakad, tumakbo, sumakay ka papuntang police station / Maging mapagmatyag sa paligid mo / Mga snatcher nakaabang sa’yo / Pera sa daan huwag basta yukuan o damputin, baka may laglag-barya gang) earned praises from netizens.
In an interview with Panay News, PRO-6 spokesperson Superintendent Gilbert Gorero said the jingles are their way to spread awareness.
“This is we think is an effective way to reach the public,” he said. “We also give out leaflets but most people just throw it away. I think this is more effective since more people are on social media now.”
Gorero said the videos are not just informative. They are also entertaining. Moreover, it reflects their image as approachable policemen.
He also said the instruction came from Police Chief Superintendent Jose Gentiles who gave out the guidelines for the composition of the jingles.
The feedback, according to Gorero, has been overwhelming.
“We are receiving positive feedback. As what you see on our Facebook page, the videos gain thousands of likes and comments,” he shared.
Another video, which highlights the Philippine National Police’s Oplan Tokhang campaign, has garnered almost 12,000 likes.
The jingle, which says in its chorus “Ramdam ko na ang pagbabago,” features the achievements of PRO-6 in curbing the illegal drugs problem in the province.
Gorero revealed that they will launch more campaign jingles in the near future./PN
