SAN JOSE, Antique – A recent symposium taught students in the province about the laws on civil registration.
The event aimed to spread awareness on the importance of civil registration and help those with issues in securing civil registration documents, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
Held in observance of the Civil Registration Month, the symposium covered provisions of Clerical Error Law (Republic Act 9048), and the laws allowing illegitimate children to use their father’s surname (Republic Act 9255) and providing for the correction of sex and the month and date of birth (Republic Act 10172).
Highlights of the 2015 Population Census and poverty statistics were also discussed.
Ultimately the PSA wanted the youth to appreciate statistical data and their importance to development, said Provincial Statistics Officer Jesus Escote Jr.
Hundreds of students from the following schools attended: Advance Central College – San Jose, Libertad National Vocational School, Union National School, Wright Technological College – Sibalom, Pascual M. Osuyos National High School, Sebaste National School, and Moscoso Rios National High School.
Meanwhile, municipal civil registrars were conducting mobile registration in barangays. They will issue certifications on civil registration documents for free on Feb. 24.
This year’s Civil Registration Month has the theme, “Pilipinong Rehistrado, Matatag na Kinabukasan ay Sigurado.”
The PSA-Antique holds office on the second floor of Eagles Place II on Bantayan Road in this capital town. (PIA/PN)
