ILOILO City – A barangay councilman suspected to be involved in the illegal numbers game “bookies” was arrested in Barangay Sta. Ana, Estancia, Iloilo.
Romel Castro, 41, was a councilman of Barangay Poblacion, Batad, Iloilo. He and suspected “bookies” collector Leomar Malaga, 37, of Barangay Anoring, Sara town were detained at the Estancia police station on Feb. 13.
The police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) carried out the arrests. Castro was a suspected sales supervisor or comptroller of “bookies” in the 5th and 4th districts of Iloilo.
According to SOG’s Chief Inspector Charlie Sustento, the suspects were arrested around 1:30 p.m. after his men received information that the two were soliciting bets.
