BACOLOD City – A Philippine Coast Guard officer detailed at the Bredco port had been arrested.
Petty Officer Second Class John Catilo was accused of violating Section 5(a) — causing physical harm to the woman or her child — of the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004.
Lieutenant Commander Jimmy Oliver Vingno, head of the Coast Guard-Bacolod, confirmed that Catilo, a 40-year-old resident of Barangay Quipot, Janiuay, Iloilo, is an active member of the local Coast Guard unit.
Operatives of the Police Regional Office 18’s Investigation and Intelligence units, the Maritime Group, the Bacolod City Police Office’s Station 1, and the police office in Mandaue City, Cebu arrested Catilo on Saturday, Feb. 18.
Regional Trial Court Branch 55 (Mandaue City) Judge Ferdinand Rafanan issued the warrant of arrest against Catilo on Aug. 8 last year yet and set the bail at P12,000.
Catilo was detained in the lockup cell of Police Station 2, which covers the vicinity of Weesam Express, where the accused was arrested, said Station 1 commander Senior Inspector Eugene Tolentino.
Chief Inspector Benedicto Villarias, Station 2 commander, said Catilo will be transported to Mandaue City today./PN
