ILOILO City – A 41-year-old construction worker was found dead in a public cemetery in Barangay Quintin Salas, Jaro district yesterday.

Police believed Roland Velasco, a resident of Barangay Tacas, also in Jaro, was murdered.

Senior Police Officer 1 Lester Oliveros told Panay News they found a telephone wire wound up around the victim’s neck and some bloodstained rocks near the body, which they discovered around 12 noon.

At least two suspects may have attacked Velasco, police said.

According to his elder sister Merlinda, Velasco went to buy ice cream for his children on Monday night but failed to return home.

The victim was supposed to celebrate his birthday on Wednesday. He had wounds on the head, but the police could not point out the cause of death until autopsy results are released.

According to the Scene of the Crime Operatives, Velasco had the letters “HGL” tattooed on his back, Oliveros said.

According to Merlinda, Velasco was drunk when he left their house.

He usually gets unruly and looks at others funny every time he gets drunk, thus attracting trouble, she added.

Velasco and wife April Rose had four children./PN
