BACOLOD City – A new commanding officer was assigned at the Philippine Army’s 303rd Infantry Brigade based in Barangay Minoyan, Murcia, Negros Occidental.
Colonel Eliezer Losañes vowed to expand the unit’s humanitarian duties in far-flung areas and assist in the government’s campaign against illegal drugs and terrorism.
Losañes was installed on Wednesday in a ceremony attended by Major General Jon Aying, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) based in Jamindan, Capiz, and Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. of Negros Occidental.
A former deputy commander of the 301st Infantry Brigade based in Dingle, Iloilo, Losañes replaced Brigadier General Francisco Delfin, who became assistant commander of the 3ID.
Losañes vowed to continue his predecessor’s unfinished projects. He called on the rebels to return to mainstream society and thanked the Negros Occidental provincial government for assisting the Army.
Marañon joined Losañes’ call for the rebels to surrender. He promised that capitol will provide them livelihood assistance.
“Imagine the life of a CPP-NPA member,” the governor said. “They have to face the rain, cold, hunger, fear, and constant offensives by the military while their leaders enjoy their lives in the Netherlands.”
He urged the rebels to “just give up” since the government is ready to help them send their children to school, among other ways to improve their lives./PN
