ILOILO City – A 72-year-old woman was nearly raped in Barangay De La Paz, Banate, Iloilo. Shaken, she was taken to the Western Visayas Medical Center.
The suspect was a 21-year-old lad who was released from the Guimaras Juvenile Detention Center just three months ago.
From what the Banate police station have gathered, the septuagenarian was walking home from her farm around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday when Regie Decen blocked her way.
The suspect kissed her, touched her private parts and demanded that she take her clothes off, said Senior Police Officer 2 Cyril Baldemor, Banate police chief.
When the old woman refused, Decen mauled her, said Baldemor.
“Despite her injuries, the victim was able to shout for help. Her family quickly responded and the suspect ran towards a sugarcane plantation,” said Baldemor.
Prior to the incident, Decen was seen binge drinking with friends at a store. But Baldemor believed it was not alcohol that drove the suspect to attack the old woman.
“Perhaps he was under the influence of illegal drugs. Only a drug addict could do that to an old woman,” said Baldemor.
As of this writing, the suspect’s whereabouts remained unknown.
According to the Banate police, Decen was detained at the Guimaras Juvenile Detention Center for stabbing to death uncle Rogelio Decen Jr. and wounding cousin Rogelio Decen III last May 8, 2013.
Decen was then only 17 years old so he was remitted to the Guimaras Juvenile Detention Center, the police explained.
