Bayan: PNoy must be impeached

ROXAS City — Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) Capiz expressed opposition to online calls for the extension of President Benigno Aquino III’s term.

Kashmer Diestro, spokesperson for Bayan–Capiz, believes the President must be impeached instead because of the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP).

Diestro described DAP as “diktador nga tikang (a dictator’s move),” alleging that Aquino was singlehandedly managing public funds through the program.

Supreme Court earlier struck down portion of DAP as unconstitutional.

Wala gaagi ang kwarta [sang pumoluyo] sa intsakto nga proseso,” he stressed.

Kon sin-o ang paborito nga kongresista kag gubernador, muna ang taga-an (Only the favored representatives and governors get a share of the funds),” he said.

A page dubbed “One More Term for PNoy” had been put up on the social networking site Facebook calling for the extension of the President’s term.

According to Malacañang, Aquino will leave the post once his term ends in 2016.

It also stressed that the Aquino administration is not in any way involved in the online petition.

For his part, Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas believes Aquino deserves a longer term due to his “sincerity, determination and ability.”

Roxas, a Capiceño, was supposed to run for president under the Liberal Party in the 2010 elections but gave way for Aquino.

Under the Constitution, a President could only have one term lasting six years; a term extension would require a constitutional amendment. (With a report from abs-cbnnews.com/PN)
