ILOILO City – Cong. Jerry Treñas described as preposterous Councilor Plaridel Nava’s claim that he wanted the Sangguniang Panlungsod member killed last year.
If Nava can prove the allegation, Treñas said he will resign immediately as congressman.
“I’m ready to resign from my position. Mahuya ko sa kabataan ko,” said Treñas.
According to Nava, Treñas sought the help of suspected drug lord Melvin “Boyet” Odicta Sr. to carry out the assassination.
“First of all, waay ko sang kalain sang buot kay Plaridel. Nga-a ipapatay ko sya? Second, waay ko kakilala kay Mr. Melvin Odicta. I have never talked to him. I don’t know him. Waay ‘ko ya relasyon sa iya,” the congressman told Panay News.
Nava said his death would then be blamed on Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog who was then at loggerheads with him.
“Nga-a ipabangod ko kay Mayor Jed? You know I was campaigning for him. Daw ka mission impossible,” said Treñas.
He has never been known as a violent man, stressed the congressman.
“Thirty years na ako sa pulitika. Waay ko may ginpapatay, nga-a all of a sudden matawag ako sa tawo nga indi ko kilala kag ipapatay ang tawo nga waay gani ko kalian sang buot? Masyado ka imposible nga istorya,” said Treñas.
Last year, Treñas announced he would be quitting politics after his third and final term as congressman ends in 2019. Early last year, however, he said he was interested to run for city mayor once again. He served as mayor for three terms from 2001 to 2010.
The congressman said he has no idea why Nava is making up stories.
According to Nava, he learned about the alleged plan to assassinate him from businessman Rommel Ynion in Metro Manila on March 8.
Ynion also ran for city mayor in 2013 but lost to Mabilog.
“I do not know what is inside their minds. Ambot ah. Para sa amon ya masyado gid ka-unbelievable, preposterous. Asta subong, I cannot think of any reason nga maglain buot ko kay Plaridel. Kon natabo ni dugay na, tani nagwa na ni dugay na. Eleksyon to, nga-a wala nila gin pagwa dayun?” he asked.
Treñas also insisted he never personally knew Odicta but acknowledged being acquainted with the suspected drug lord’s brother Noel “Nene” Odicta, barangay captain of Tanza Esperanza.
“Kapitan na ya naton. I attend mga events of our barangay captains, I never deny that. But to say nga kilala ko si Melvin Odicta? I never met him. I have never even talked to him,” he stressed.
Odicta was killed by a still unidentified gunman in August last year at the jetty port in Caticlan, Malay, Aklan.
The congressman denied being a drug protector. He said his track record supporting the police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency would bear this out such as helping put up police detachments its drug-affected villages such as Tanza Esperanza and Bakhaw./PN
