CEBU City – Barangays in this city were given until Wednesday, March 15 to submit a list of drug personalities in their respective areas to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 7.
Only about 18 percent of the 80 barangays have complied with the directive, according to PDEA regional director Yogi Filemon Ruiz.
A demand letter will be sent to all barangay captains who will fail to beat the deadline.
“If they still fail to submit the list, I have no choice but to inform our director general about it. Cases might be filed,” Ruiz warned.
He said Cebu City barangays are their first target.
“Cebu City is in the center of the drug trade in Central Visayas. So we focus on Cebu City first,” said Ruiz.
Village chiefs from other areas in Central Visayas may also submit their respective lists.
“There’s no stopping them from submitting a list to the PDEA,” Ruiz said.
Earlier Ruiz filed administrative charges against barangay officials of Ermita who did not cooperate with PDEA agents in a raid of a “shabu tiangge” around 500 meters from the barangay hall on Nov. 6 last year.
In January, the Office of the Ombudsman – Visayas ordered the six-month preventive suspension of all Ermita village officials. (PNA)
