MANILA – The Senate Blue Ribbon committee has been urged to investigate the complaints of corruption against Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) chief operating officer Cesar Montano.

TPB employees recently filed a formal complaint before the President Action Center against Montano over conflict of interest, nepotism, and incompetence.

“It is imperative that we look into the complaints against Mr. Montano. He is leading an agency tasked with domestic and international promotions of the Department of Tourism,” said Sen. Nancy Binay in filing Senate Resolution No. 326.

“As such, he must act with the protection of the image of the TPB and the government in mind at all times,” the senator said.

In the complaint filed by tourism employees, 24 issues were raised against the actor, who was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte in December last year.

They questioned the P11.2-million contract with Carat Philippines where Montano and his nieces performed.

He was also criticized for hiring friends, relatives and colleagues into the agency.

Binay, the chairwoman of the Senate committee on tourism, also urged Department of Tourism Sec. Wanda Teo to look into this matter.

“We cannot allow our efforts to promote the country as a top tourist destination to be ruined by controversies, especially one involving an official of our tourism agency,” the senator said.

“This investigation will enable us to review our laws and ensure that issues of malfeasance, misfeasance and charges of graft and corruption in the government are immediately addressed.”/PN
