A different kind of high!

I STARTED my public speaking sessions on Oct. 13, 2021, with six participants and boy! What pleasure I had mentoring again! I have always loved public speaking since I was in my early twenties, and I have the National Power Corporation-Visayas Regional Center (NPC-VRC) in Cebu City to thank for!

Sonia Momongan-Academia, the amiable lady who served as Secretariat of the NPC-VRC Executives’ Toastmasters Club then, asked me to take her place since she was pregnant at the time. I attended a few meetings with her and was dumbfounded by the parade of dynamite and powerful speakers who came from other Toastmasters Clubs in Cebu City!

Right then and there, I decided that this is what I want to become: a powerful, eloquent, and confident speaker who will mesmerize the audience, haha!

That was the beginning of my romance with public speaking. It was a journey, too! I was privileged to serve as Secretary of the NPC-VRC Executives’ Toastmasters Club, and it was a brilliant learning experience.

To clarify, I wasn’t a member of the club since it was designed for executives only but at 22 and the pleasure it brought, I couldn’t complain! I just maximized the experience.

The NPC-VRC Executives’ Toastmasters Club was the brainchild of then NPC-VRC Vice President Asisclo T. Gonzaga, a Boholano, who eventually became president of the National Power Corporation.

Thus, my gratitude to NPC-VRC, Engr. Gonzaga, Sonia, all the executives then who welcomed me into their fold. One of the best trainings in my life!

When I relocated to General Santos City, I provided public speaking trainings to the Philippine Army, Philippine National Police, groups of professionals, students, and fellow church members.

It’s so good to help others who are desirous to learn and improve their skills. If they are up to the task, I am going to challenge them.

Food for Thought

Everyone has his own set of insecurities in life. But I am just wondering if our insecurities blind us from what we have achieved during our best seasons. Let us not forget the people who have helped us become better versions of ourselves at these life stations.
