A dozen ‘illegal gamblers’ nabbed

BACOLOD City – Twelve suspects were arrested on Oct. 29 for allegedly engaging in illegal gambling.

They were Michael Legapi, 37; Jose Leopoldo, 59; Welfredo Libre, 49; Jose Uyanib, 40; Jovie Maqueller, 36; Benidecto Omblero, 47; Samson Mancia, 35; Carlos Bargamento, 53; Romulo Abiso, 46; Emello Bacalla, 22; Jeslanie Screbano, 25; and Jury Lebre, 27.

Eleven of the suspects are residents of Calatrava, Negros Occidental, while Mancia is a resident of Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental.

The Calatrava Municipal Police Station apprehended the suspects at Barangay Laga-an, Calatrava.

They were allegedly caught in the act of playing cara y cruz (“hantak”).

Recovered in their possession were three coins for the game, and P13.

The suspects are detained at the custodial facility of the Calatrava Municipal Police Station./PN
