IN CELEBRATION of Cong. Michael B. Gorriceta’s birthday, he initiated a Zumba and Fitness Party to promote wellness and healthy lifestyle along with Program Chairpersons Dr. Kathryn Joyce Fermin Gorriceta and Ms. Pinky Gorriceta Jalandoni, together with the 2nd Congressional District Office, Association of LGBTQIA+ Segundo Distrito and the Segundo Distrito Iloilo Youth.
Dubbed “MIKE-Nasadya Kita: Mag Saot-Saot kag mag Bayat-Bayat para sa Mapagros kag Makusog nga Segundo Distrito”, this was held last Oct. 6 at the Pavia Plaza and attended by over 2,000 individuals from the eight towns of the 2nd District of Iloilo.
Local officials were present in full force and joined to dance in the beat such as 2nd District Board Member Rolito Cajilig, Alimodian Mayor Ian Kenneth Alfeche, Alimodian Vice Mayor Geefre “Kalay” Alonsabe, Leon Mayor Ma. Lina Cabana Holipas, Leon Vice Mayor Rey Capaque, San Miguel Vice Mayor Bonifacio Salapantan, Jr., Sta. Barbara Mayor Dennis Superficial, Sta. Barbara Vice Mayor Isabelo Maquino, Pavia Mayor Luigi Gorriceta, Pavia Vice Mayor Bibo Gerochi, Zarraga Mayor Joefel Marañon Soldevilla, New Lucena representative Sangguniang Bayan (SB) Member Noynoy Sorongon, Leganes representative SB Member Niño Vallejo, SB Members from the different municipalities of the 2nd District, municipal employees, Punong Barangays and their council plus Barangay Health Workers and Barangay Service Point Officers.
Different Zumba groups came in their impressive attires. The day was even made enjoyable with games and raffle prizes. Some towns also brought healthy food such as boiled bananas, sweet corn, fruits and buko juice, among others to share and to adhere with the theme of healthy lifestyle and clean living.
The repertoire included performances by AMC Trinity (2022 World Championships of Performing Arts [WCOPA] Finalist), Ms. Daphne Jontarciego (3-time WCOPA Gold Medalist), Udtuhan Theater Dance Company and a surprise dance number by the Municipality of Leon Municipal Employees and Staff as their birthday gift to Cong. Michael B. Gorriceta.
The highlight of the event was the Zumba proper by the Kandos Crew Iloilo, the top Zumba group instructors in Iloilo composed of Walter Demonteverde, Willie Padaca, Ricky Guevara, Eub Tabucan, Jonathan Dayaday, Jarwin De Juan and Neilbert Jude Custodio.
The main group is led by TML Crew International from Metro Manila with an international fan base of 2.8 million subscribers composed of Mark Kramer Pastrana, Jay Laurente, Paulo Neil Mandigma, John Robert Tayag and Alan Olamit.
The event concluded with a jaw-dropping firedance number by Spark the Firemaster, a WCOPA multi-medalist, followed by a grand fireworks display./PN
