‘A very satisfied customer’

IT’S NOT quite often that you have the mayor of a highly urbanized city – probably the best and most progressive city in the Philippines – exude high praises for a power distribution utility.

And that’s exactly what “I Am Iloilo City” mayor Jerry Treñas did while speaking before visiting journalists and media persons from Bacolod City.

Of course, Mayor Treñas was referring to MORE Power, Iloilo City’s current sole power distribution utility. He did not mince words. “I am a very satisfied customer of MORE Power,” he said.

There is no doubt that MORE Power has exceeded themselves and more in terms of quality service and customer relations, not to mention its more than P5-billion (and counting) investments to bring the power distribution system of “I Am Iloilo City” into the 21st century.

It’s also proper to mention that for almost two years the citizens of Iloilo City had the opportunity to enjoy what was probably the lowest power rate in the country at P6.46/per kilowatt hour.

Yes folks, Mayor Treñas wants our fellow Ilonggos in Bacolod City to also experience and enjoy the good that is MORE Power.

According to Mayor Treñas, Bacolodnons should grab the opportunity to have better electricity, vouching for MORE Electric and Power Corporation as a reliable power distributor.

MORE Power is a sister company of Ignite Power which is proposing a joint venture agreement (JVA) with Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco).

“Very happy and satisfied customer gid ako (of MORE Power),” Mayor Treñas told members of the Bacolod media who visited his office recently.

With MORE Power, Iloilo City now has a stable power supply, reliable electricity distribution and lower rates, stressed Treñas.

“If Ignite/MORE Power comes in it will help in the development of Bacolod,” he said.

He added: “MORE Power delivers good service to Iloilo City and they work very closely with us, very consumer-friendly with excellent Corporate Social Responsibility. (Panay News 5/8/2023)

Ceneco is a “dismal failure” in providing affordable, reliable and efficient power supply, according to Power Watch Negros Advocates (PWNA).

Currently, Ceneco is losing P20 million a month and it also has debts amounting to P600 million.

Talks has it that the Ceneco management is plagued with incompetence/corruption, people who are not qualified are in high positions i.e. a priest as a member of the Board of Directors; I suppose if there’s a blackout he’ll probably sprinkle “holy water” and it will miraculously bring the power back.

Seriously speaking though, the Bacolodnons are not taking this lying down and just cooling themselves with a ‘pamaypay.”

Meanwhile, Negros Occidental’s Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and Vice Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer support the proposed JVA between Ceneco and Ignite Power. According to Lacson, they now have a better understanding of MORE Power’s intention and he pointed out that with the latter’s performance in Iloilo, he is confident that Bacolodnons and Negrosanons would benefit, too, as MORE Power is knowledgeable on how to curb power interruptions and systems loss, which in turn would lower power rates.

“I believe in the management of MORE Power,” Lacson said.

At the end of the day, let’s take it from “I Am Iloilo City” mayor Jerry Treñas when he said Bacolodnons should grab the chance to have better power with Ignite/MORE Power.

Indeed, there’s more in Life with MORE Power./PN
