Do the city noise, heatwave and that grimy street scent overpower your senses?
Or crouching in front of your work computer makes your body ache and gives you a migraine?
Looking for a perfect place to wind down?
Listen to the “huní” of your heart’s desire and take that long-overdue getaway you deserve.
Sicogon Island is a hidden gem on the panoramic coasts of Northern Iloilo. At present, a 2-storey, 52-key modern contemporary boutique resort called “Huni Sicogon” operates within Sicogon Island Tourism Estate — Ayala Land’s newest tourism venture.
Huni Sicogon strategically sits between the lush green Mt. Opao and the alluring San Fernando beach. A secluded paradise that houses a unique set of flora and fauna.
Huni Sicogon delivers a tranquil escape or a vibrant island adventure, whichever you prefer.
The resort’s main structure exudes character and elegance with an overall sleek look, finished with muted earth colors and accents of the sea’s hue. Rooms, hallways, the restaurant, and the reception area are furnished with inviting seascape paintings.
Best suited to blend with all of these are the island’s very own handicrafts made of “cogon”, a type of grass found in abundance and from which the island got its name.
So gaze out to the mesmerizing seas and skies with a sheer overlay of wispy clouds while indulging in Huni Sicogon’s amenities!
All Inclusive
Got kids with you? No worries. They are not excluded from the fun, nor would it be a bummer for you, because the fresh spring water infinity pool has a dedicated area for kids.
Lounging areas are best for low-key moments in between your adventure-packed vacation schedule. Of course, those who would like to have a happy hour “sesh” can end the night in the pool bar.
The resort is also equipped with Wi-Fi connection and good mobile reception, as the island has its own cell tower.
Binge in their spacious 3-bed family suites and single or twin-bed deluxe rooms, where you can choose between an overlooking mountain or a beach view.
In-room amenities include electronic key cards, bedroom telephones, air-conditioning, ceiling fan, multi-type wall socket, smoke detector, cable LED television, electric kettles, mini fridge, in-room valuables safe, hot and cold shower, hair dryer, with other bath amenities and bidet spray.
Need a calming massage? The resort has got it covered with an on-call masseuse.
Indulgence
What’s a getaway without sumptuous food? Huni Sicogon offers a wide selection of superb food including Filipino and international cuisine in their all-day dining restaurant.
But it is no secret that Sicogon Island is home to one of the country’s richest fishing and shellfish harvesting areas. A ‘Pinoy’ feast that primes dishes from sea-to-table is definitely a must-not-miss mouth-watering experience. Enjoy quality and budget-friendly food with the picturesque island view.
Island Ventures
Wish to enjoy a variety of nature-based activities but can’t decide which one you’d love to do more? You never have to be conflicted when you can have both the ocean and the mountains.
Huni Sicogon is nestled between the tenacious 350-meter Mt. Opao and the five-kilometer long, distinct creamy white sand of the 2.5km San Fernando beach that connects the island to the clear, turquoise waters.
Challenge yourself by trekking Mt. Opao and receive the reward of an exhilarating 360-degree view atop. Arrange island hopping tours on a boat to the renowned Islas de Gigantes..
One may also opt to directly dive into the saltwater, or go kayaking, stand-up paddle-boarding, and snorkeling within Sicogon or the adjacent Tumaquin Islet.
Even a simple barefoot stroll on the beach would tickle your soul into serenity.
People’s Warmth
The people on the island, including resort staff, are the most accommodating and will make your stay as comfortable as possible. A tour of the villages on the island allows you to meet friendly residents, waving their hands while flashing the warmest smile.
Genuine hospitality is definitely felt, even in the simplest gestures.
More importantly, the people on the island are amiable because the local community plays an active and significant role in the endeavors of the resort. For one, majority of the employees are locals.
Huni Sicogon is like one big family and the entire island is a home.
Getting There
The main way, for now, to navigate to Huni Sicogon is by land and sea. Tourists may take a bus or a van to the town of Estancia, Iloilo. From the town’s seaport, one will ride a motor banca going to the island.
Just a heads up, prepare for a thrill even before getting there because the seas can be a little rough at times.
For air travel, Sicogon Island is supported by an on-site airstrip that will soon be open for direct commercial flights via AirSWIFT Airlines by December 16 of this year. Definitely something to look forward to.
More sea-to-summit adventure awaits as more accommodation options including a beachfront hostel and daytrip cottages open this December.
