ILOILO – The mother who abandoned her newborn baby near a bamboo grove in Barangay Napnapan Norte, Tigbauan town last week has been identified.
She was a minor living with her aunt in the same town, according to the police.
The aunt requested not to disclose their exact location. The minor’s mother was reportedly working abroad.
According to Police Captain Roy Castro, Tigbauan police chief, they were able to locate the baby’s mother with the help of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and residents of neighboring villages.
COUNSELING
According to Melin Gerona, head of the Adoption Resource and Referral Unit of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Region 6, there would be counseling and family case conference with the young mother. These would be conducted by the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) of Tigbauan.
“Nga-a kalab-ot sa amo ‘na nga sitwasyon nga napangbilin ang bata,” said Gerona.
After the case was referred to them, Gerona said, DSWD-6 provided technical assistance to the MSWDO to ensure the medical and health condition of the baby and trace the mother.
Where’s the baby now?
Presently, the baby girl is being cared by the minor’s aunt.
Gerona said DSWD-6 has a licensed foster family ready to temporarily take care of the baby if no one would.
The newborn was found Thursday last week by a certain Michael who was tending his cow.
The baby girl wrapped in plastic under the bamboos just a few meters from their house.
According to Michael’s cousin, Donnabel Tidor, she and her family cleaned the baby, then brought it to the Rural Health Unit. They were subsequently referred to the Rep. Pedro Trono Memorial District Hospital./PN
