BACOLOD City – An abandoned baby boy was rescued at a sugarcane field in Barangay Poblacion Dos, Sagay City, Negros Occidental.

Farm laborers heard a baby crying around 6 a.m. on May 5, traced the cries and found it, said Sagay City police chief, Lieutenant Colonel Robert Indiape.

Personnel of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) rushed the baby boy to the Alfredo E. Marañon Memorial District Hospital.

Several individuals came forward announcing their intention to adopt the baby. Indiape, however, said this is for the CSWDO to decide.

Also on Friday last week, a baby girl was found at a dumpsite in Sitio Cabangahan, Barangay Hilamonan, Kabankalan City around 7 a.m.

Waste picker Josephine Diaz said the baby was placed inside the black garbage bag with the umbilical cord uncut.

On Saturday, May 6, yet another infant was found in Hacienda Malisbog 2, Barangay E. Lopez, Silay City.

Punong Barangay Mema Gallego reported to the police around 7 p.m. that the baby was recovered in an eco bag and was already in a state of decomposition.

The remains of the infants were referred to the local Department of Social Welfare and Development offices for proper disposition./PN
