Abando’s Anyang prevails over Abarrientos’ Ulsan in KBL

MANILA – Rhenz Abando and Anyang KGC Ginseng Corporation renewed its mastery over Rhon Jay Abarrientos and Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus via a 95-83 win on Saturday at the Anyang Indoor Gymnasium.

Abando, a former Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights star, tallied just six points, on 2-of-5 shooting, to go with one rebound and one assist in 15 minutes of action for Anyang, which improved to league-leading 30-11 record.

Abarrientos, on the other hand, finished with 10 points, on 2-of-7 shooting, with five assists, two rebounds and two steals in 21 minutes of play as the Phoebus dropped to 24-17.

Omari Spellman led the way for Anyang KGC with double-double 27 points and 14 rebounds, while Byun Junhyung and Oh Se-geun contributed 18 and 17 markers, respectively.

Gaige Prim top-scored for the Phoebus with 24 points to go with 17 rebounds and two assists, while Wooseok Lee and Taewan Kim contributed 14 and 12 markers, respectively.

Abando and Anyang have prevailed over Abarrientos and the Phoebus in their last two meetings—a 77-68 victory last December 31, 2022 and 100-86 last January 12, 2023.

Meanwhile, Samjosef Belangel and the Daegu Korea Gas Corporation KOGAS suffered a close 89-85 defeat at the hands of defending champions Seoul SK Knights at the Jamsil Student Gymnasium.

Belangel tallied 10 points, on 4-of-6 field goal shooting, to go with four assists, three rebounds and two steals in almost 28 minutes of action for KOGAS, which dropped to 13-26 record.

Jameel Marcus Warney finished with double-double 28 points and 10 rebounds, while Junyong Choi, Heo Il-young and Wonhyeok Choi had 13, 11 and 10 markers, respectively, as the Knights moved up to 23-16.

Murphy Holloway and Jeong Hyo-geun top-scored for the losing KOGAS with 20 markers apiece, while Daeheon Lee and Daesung Lee contributed 13 and 12 markers, respectively./PN
