MANILA – A Chinese businessman and his driver, who were abducted on March 29, were discovered deceased in Rodriguez, Rizal on Wednesday, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) said.
Secretary Jonvic Remulla confirmed on Thursday that the bodies recovered belonged to businessman Anson Que and his driver, whose identity has not yet been disclosed.
“Yes, that’s confirmed,” Remulla stated briefly.
Reports indicate that the bodies of Que and his driver were found in a nylon bag, with their faces covered in duct tape, at Barangay Macabud in Rodriguez, Rizal, early Wednesday morning.
There are conflicting accounts regarding the circumstances of the kidnapping; some sources claim Que and his driver were taken from a seafood restaurant in Pasay City, while others suggest they were abducted in Bulacan.
Before the bodies were located, Que’s Lexus LM350 multi-purpose vehicle was discovered abandoned in Barangay Bahay Toro, Quezon City, on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro assured that investigations are underway for the kidnapping of Que to make sure that those behind it will be punished.
“Patuloy po ang pag-iimbestiga dito. Hindi po ito tutulugan ng gobyerno,” Castro said. “Ang lahat po ay pinagbilinan ng Pangulo na imbestigahang mabuti para ma-lessen or ma-eradicate ang ganito.”
This incident occurred just over a month after a 14-year-old Chinese student was kidnapped on February 20 while leaving the British School Manila in Taguig, during which the boy’s driver was killed.
The kidnappers mutilated one of the boy’s fingers before releasing him along Macapagal Boulevard in Parañaque on February 26./PN
