IN line with its commitment to promoting a culture of safety across the organization and among its partners, the AboitizPower Coal Business Unit (BU) clocked in close to 9.6 million safe man-hours without lost time injury (LTI) as of the end of June this year.
From 2016 until June 30, 2021, facilities operating under the BU have already collectively reached a total of 9,587,739 safe man-hours, marking a significant milestone not only for the unit itself but also for the whole AboitizPower Group.
âThis milestone is a testament to our commitment to safety and responsible operations. The human aspect of it all far outweighs any target, key performance indicator, or deliverable. At AboitizPower and throughout the Aboitiz Group, we treat each other like our own kin, and we wouldnât want any harm to come to our family,â AboitizPower Coal BU president and chief operating officer Celso Caballero III said.
Building a solid safety culture in the workplace translates to better plant availability and reliability, highlighting the organizationâs dedication to responsible operations.
The AboitizPower Coal BUâs recent achievement also resonates with the AboitizPower Groupâs drive for sustainability, with occupational health and safety playing a big part in its Environment, Social, and Governance strategy.
âWe recognize that organizations are only truly sustainable when they ensure the safety, health, and welfare of all their team members and partners,â Caballero added.
Regularly, around 400 organic team members are working at the AboitizPower Coal BUâs facilities in Bataan, Cebu, Davao, Quezon, and its corporate headquarters in Metro Manila.
Across the AboitizPower Group, business units are leveraging technology to promote behavior-based safety among their team members through a mobile application wherein safety issues can be reported and acted upon immediately. According to Caballero, this has driven positive behavior among employees and the improvement of the organizationâs overall safety performance.
âManaging a workforce scattered across various locations in the country can be a challenge, but the AboitizPower Coal BU has made sure all facilities play a proactive role in safety excellence,â Caballero added.
AboitizPower is envisioned to be world-class in its safety practices and a leader in safety, health, and environment-related behavior.
âTo demonstrate a positive safety culture, everybody is accountable for all their team members as well as contractors and staff. Everybody goes home to their families with complete arms and legs and in good health. We will continue to make safety our number one priority,â Caballero said./PN
