MANY cannot understand why our representatives in Congress voted to turn down the ABS-CBN bill to renew its franchise. Some 70 of them, including our two lady representatives from Iloilo’s 1st District and Iloilo City’s Lone District voted to cancel ABS-CBN’s franchise!
Have they tried to find out the views of their constituents on this issue?
If they did, they will be surprised that many are looking forward for the network to be back on their TV screens so they can again enjoy their favorite TV programs for news and entertainment.
We thought that our congressmen were representing us in Congress but in this case they voted in complete disregard of the wishes of many of their followers. You have cut off entertainment for thousands of our people, especially in this time of the pandemic when they are mostly at home.
There are also 11,000 workers that lost their jobs with families to feed, rent and mortgages to pay and children to send to school.
According to Sen. Franklin Drilon, due to constitutional limitations, ABS-CBN will have to wait until 2022 when a new Congress is elected for the company to apply again for renewal of franchise.
To our workers who lost their jobs, please go to the congressman in your district and ask for help in the meantime. They should be ready to give you assistance because they voted you out of your jobs.
Tell us if they refuse to help you so we can announce their names for people to be guided what to do when they cast their votes in the next election.
With no help coming, it is time that you create a job for yourself.
Have you observed the children of the Chinese in our community? When they finish college, they go into business. If you have not decided yet, why not go to the manager of your bank in the community, especially where you are a depositor and ask advice. He has exposure to many businesses because of his inter-action with clients everyday. He might even assist you financially as a start-up in business if you need help.
We asked our suki barber for his opinion and his advice is to put up another radio-TV business to replace ABS-CBN on the screen. But it should be a DYDY or Dayaw-Dayaw radio-TV network. We did not argue with him as he was cutting our hair.
