MANILA – The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Office has given Calvin Abueva the greenlight to join his Phoenix Super LPG teammates in the “PBA bubble,” but his stint with the Fuel Masters for the Philippine Cup restart remains up in the air.
In a report by Fastbreak, citing an article from Business Mirror, Abueva was bound for Clark, Pampanga last night pending the league’s decision on his indefinite suspension.
Fuel Masters interim coach Michael “Topex” Robinson, who joined Abueva in a meeting with PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial early Tuesday, considers the development “a major breakthrough for Calvin and for the team.”
Following the meeting, Robinson and Abueva went to Games and Amusements Board office to secure a new playing license but it was yet to be granted as of presstime.
The Fuel Masters entered the bubble on Monday without Abueva, who has been suspended indefinitely since June 2019.
Phoenix initially listed Abueva to its “PBA bubble” roster but withdrew his name on the advice of the league since Marcial has yet to lift Abueva’s suspension, which is now on its 15th month.
Based on the rules, the delegates can enter the cup until 11:59 p.m. of Oct. 10 before it closes its doors to players, coaches and staff./PN
