ILOILO City – A committee on agriculture in each of the 180 barangays, according to City Councilor Lyndon Acap.
The Councilor plans to include these projects in the annual appropriations, subject to the approval of the City Budget Office.
The proposed measure was passed on first reading and referred to the Committee on Barangay Affairs and the Committee on Agriculture.
The Councilor recently filed an ordinance for all barangays to form the committees.
“It is imperative to insure that agriculture programs and activities entrusted to agencies and the local government units can reach the barangay level and will be given preferential attention,” the proposed ordinance read.
The functions and responsibilities of the committee will be to consult and represent the city’s Agricultural Council.
The committee will also be tasked to review project proposals intended for urban development from private individuals or association.
They will then endorse these proposals to the concerned offices or agencies.
The committee will also serve as the project implementer and monitoring arm of the Agriculture Department./PN
