BACOLOD City – A fighting cock farm caretaker shot a 14-year-old boy in Barangay Camansi, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
From what police investigators have so far gathered, the shooting at around 2 p.m. Monday was an accident.
The victim, a Grade 6 pupil, sustained a gunshot wound on the right upper hip. Police refused to identify the victim.
Police identified the fighting cock farm caretaker as the 30-year-old Michael Semillano of the same village.
Witnesses told the police Semillano fled after the incident, bringing his firearm with him.
Semillano and the boy were about to eat lunch when the former placed his Magnum .357 revolver on top of the dining table to get plates, investigation showed.
When Semillano grabbed the firearm, the weapon suddenly went off, hitting the boy, said the police.
The victim was rushed to the Lorenzo Zayco District Hospital in Kabankalan City. He was later transferred to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in this city.
