NLEX star guard may be out for 8 months
MANILA â Already fighting for its life in the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals, NLEX Road Warriors has been dealt with a huge blow.
Its star guard, Kevin Alas, will be out for at least eight months due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear injury.
The Gilas Pilipinas member personally confirmed the news after having his knee checked by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Raul Canlas on Monday morning.
He will be subject to an additional test to determine the severity of the injury.
âInitial diagnosis of Doc Canlas sa akin ay ACL tear, mga eight months out. Have scheduled MRI test for further analysis later [sic],â Alas said.
Alas, a former Letran Knights guard, suffered the season-ending injury on the right knee in the first quarter of Game 5 of their semifinals match against Magnolia Hotshots.
NLEX lost 78-87 in the game on Sunday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City, with Hotshots effectively undermining Kiefer Ravenaâs 29 points.
The absence of Alas will be a huge blow for Road Warriors, which will try to extend the race-to-four semifinals series in Game 6 tonight at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Alas became the second casualty in the Road Warriors-Hotshots series.
Magnoliaâs veteran center Marc Pingris sustained a similar injury in Game 1 of the series./PN
