MANILA â Adamson Lady Falcons bucked the absence of star Jessica Galanza to win over San Beda Lady Red Spikers 22-25, 25-23, 25-16, 21-25, 15-11 in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference.
La Carlota City, Negros Occidental native Christine Joy Soyud led the way with 26 points â on 21 attacks, three blocks and two service aces â while Joy Dacoron added 15 for Adamson, which completed the eliminations 5-0.
This allowed Lady Falcons to set up a best-of-three semifinals match with fellow UAAP squad Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws starting today.
Lady Falcons failed to close out Lady Red Spikers in the fourth set Monday night at San Juan Arena and struggled early in the fifth after being down 4-7. But hits from Dacoron and Soyud allowed Adamson to tie the score at 7-all.
Lady Falcons went on to take the lead 13-7 with back-to-back hits from Soyud and Fenela Emnas. Lady Red Spikers last tried to come close at 11-14 but a hit from Chiara Permentilla sealed the win for Adamson.
âThe thing that was most frustrating about is that we were not playing like weâre Adamson,â said Lady Falcons head coach Airess Padda. âThey were like super-relaxed, laziness mood going on in the court. They were treating it like they werenât being serious.â
Franchesca Racraquin finished with 18 points while Satrriani Espiritu and Maria Jiezela Viray added 10 markers apiece for Lady Red Spikers, which ended its campaign with a 2-3 win-loss record.
Lady Tamaraws, meanwhile, clinched the last semifinals seat after a come-from-behind win 18-25, 28-26, 25-15, 25-17 over Lyceum Lady Pirates.
Toni Rose Basas top-scored with 21 markers while Jerrilli Malabanan added 9 markers for Lady Tamaraws, which improved to 4-1 and in the process eliminated Ateneo Lady Eagles (3-2)./PN
