MANILA – The House of Representatives has approved on third and final reading a proposed measure that seeks to create five new Regional Trial Courts (RTCs) in Iloilo City.

House Bill 2927 is authored by Iloilo City’s Cong. Jerry Treñas. He said the bill will ensure the speedy disposal of litigated cases.

“The number of cases docketed continues to overburden our city’s courts,” Treñas said.

Section 1 of bill provides that the Supreme Court shall assign the branch numbers of the newly-created branches of the RTC in the Sixth Judicial Region.

In Iloilo, there is slow progress in cases filed due to the inadequate number of trial courts, Treñas lamented.

Iloilo City RTC Judges, representatives from the Integrated Bar of the Philippines – Iloilo Chapter and the Iloilo City Prosecutors had been calling for more courts, he said.

“Our nation cannot expect the speedy disposition of cases if our judges are overtaxed with unreasonable case loads,” stressed Treñas./PN
