BACOLOD City – The government should address the rising food inflation before talking about wage increase, according to the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI).
The business sector has been appealing to the government and multinational companies to invest heavily in food production for the agricultural sector to improve, according to Frank Carbon, MBCCI chief executive officer in an interview via 96.7 XFM Bacolod over the weekend.
A petition has been filed in the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board for an increase in the daily wage.
Carbon said the Filipinos’ access to cheaper food must be improved first before the government considers raising wages.
The proposed P750 increase in the daily wage is too much for businesses, especially for micro, small and medium enterprises still reeling from the adverse economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic, said Carbon./PN
