SAN JOSE, Antique – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) sustains its advocacy on consumer rights by reaching out to the youth organizations and implementing the Bagwis Award.

DTI-Antique Trade and Industry Development Specialist Glen Fernando said DTI-Antique is resolute in its advocacy to reach out to various organizations and establishments to ensure that consumer rights are upheld.

Part of its campaign was a consumer awareness advocacy campaign with students of the University of Antique, Tibiao Campus. The students were given orientation on the basic consumer rights and responsibilities as well as the salient features of Fair Trade Laws.

Fernando said that through continuous advocacy, consumers will become more confident in asserting their rights and in performing their responsibilities.

DTI has been partnering with UA-Tibiao Campus on consumer rights advocacy since 2018.

For business establishments, DTI has conducted an orientation on Bagwis Award.

Bagwis Award gives due recognition to business establishments that uphold the rights of consumers and practice responsible business.

Fernando met with the store managers in Culasi, Tibiao, and Barbaza for a briefing regarding the mechanics of the award.

As of 2021, a total of 17 business establishments in Antique were awarded the Bagwis Seals, of which six were recipients of bronze, five for silver, and six gold seals. (JBG/PSM/PIA-Antique/PN)
