AFTER DUTERTE’S ARREST; PNP: Situation remains under control

MANILA – The situation across the country remains “generally peaceful” and “under control” following the arrest of former president Rodrigo Duterte, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

In a statement, the PNP said its alert status has been heightened nationwide on Tuesday afternoon as part of its standard security measures.

“The PNP reports that the overall peace and order situation across the country remains generally peaceful following the departure of former president Rodrigo Roa Duterte to The Hague, Netherlands,” the PNP said.

“As of today, the situation across the country remains under control. The PNP assures the public of its continued vigilance and commitment to maintaining peace and security nationwide,” it added.

The PNP also said policemen have been deployed in key areas to support public safety efforts and ensure order, while their units remain prepared to help as needed and respond to any developments.

“The PNP continues to monitor the situation closely and is fully prepared to respond to any developments. Our personnel have been strategically deployed to ensure peace and security nationwide,” it said.

On Tuesday morning, officials executed an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for Duterte, citing crimes against humanity related to his anti-drug campaign.
