ILOILO – The Aganan Bridge in Barangay Aganan, Pavia, Iloilo was partially closed to vehicular traffic on Saturday as personnel of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) repair a damaged portion of the bridge. This resulted to rerouting of vehicles bound for Sta. Barbara and other towns.
Mayor Lawrence Anthony “Luigi” Gorriceta said the bridge was under repair since Friday.
He appealed to commuters and motorists for their patience and understanding.
According to Gorriceta, they cannot compromise safety.
Motorists and truckers have to take a detour for their safety, he said.
Gorriceta explained that aside from old age, another factor that contributed to the damage of the bridge was the number of trucks passing the area, particularly overloaded heavy vehicles.
The decade-old old bridge was constructed by the DPWH Region 6’s 4th Engineering District Office.
Gorriceta said the repair will last more or less than two weeks, adding that they will enforce a traffic rerouting in the area.
He noted that all vehicles from crossing Aganan going to Barangay Mali-ao or Sta. Barbara will be diverted to the Poblacion or town proper of Pavia. The road going the city will remain one way.
Gorriceta said changes on the rerouting plan are possible as they are still monitoring the traffic situation in the area. The town mayor deployed 44 traffic aides to man the closures enforced from Barangay Mali-ao going to Barangay Aganan./PN
