
ANTIQUE – There are 224.85 hectares of the agriculture sector with a peso value of P7, 275,438.86 have been devastated in the province of Antique due to floods and landslides brought by the tropical depression ‘Agaton.’ It also listed rice damaged and other high-value crops valued at P7,275,438.86 according to the report of Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) in Region-6 last April 18.
In addition, 183 houses were damaged by floods and landslides in Antique. Out of 183 houses, three (3) are totally damaged while 180 are partially damaged.
Antique has no listed casualties but in the Panay region, there are 17 total deaths that came from Capiz (12) and Iloilo (5).
To recall, heavy downpours from April 11 to 12 caused landslides in 20 barangays spanning eight towns – Laua-an, Bugasong, Barbaza, Patnongon, Valderrama, Culasi, Tibiao, and Sibalom.
Meanwhile, water levels rose in Sibalom, San Jose, and Hamtic, with one individual rescued after being swept away by strong currents in the Solong River.
Another incident to note was a landslide in Barangay Pangalcagan, Bugasong, where 77-year-old Melinda Vergara was buried under her home during a landslide last April 12, Tuesday around 3 AM.
Vergara was pulled out and rescued by a nearby family and barangay officials.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office records a total of 1,731 evacuees who were housed in their designated evacuation centers or nearby relatives. (With a report from PIO LAVEGA/ Province of Antique)/ PN
