
BACOLOD City – To promote local farmers produce and provide affordable food options to consumers, the City Agriculture Office (CAO) recently launched its agri-fishery digital platform program.
This online digital system established between the Agro-Digital PH and the local farmers will also serve its purpose in updating production, price, and logistics, ensuring a steady supply of commodities.
The launching held at Gaisano Grand City Central Mall Supermarket highlighted various fresh produce of the city farmers offered at affordable prices such as onions, eggplants, okra, string beans, tomatoes, oyster mushrooms, bell pepper, pechay, and batuan, among many others.
CAO head Maricar Quiro said the program was conceptualized six months under the guidance and support of Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez in order to ensure food security, provide local farmers with consistent livelihood opportunities, and give a healthy, fresh, and affordable food choices to buyers.
She invited consumers to come and explore the numerous food options at the fruits and vegetables section of the said mall’s supermarket.
Quiro added that the refrigerated van intended for this program will be delivered this week. This will be utilized to transport the products from Barangay Alangilan to the said mall.
Meanwhile, the Sunday Market and Kadiwa ng Pangulo at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) grounds is still ongoing.
Open from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. every Sunday, it aims to provide a platform for small businesses, promote sustainable agriculture, and strengthen the local food economy by directly connecting farmers and fisherfolk with the consumers.
Available here are fresh and locally produced goods, including fresh and cooked seafood, seasonal fruits, vegetables, plants and succulents, herbs, fresh and processed mushrooms, fresh and cooked eggs, brewed coffee, fresh lettuce, and kakanins, among others./PN
