CAPAS, Tarlac – Negrense Antonette Jay Aguillon of Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws captured a bronze medal in the women’s heptathlon event of the UAAP Season 87 athletics events on Monday at the New Clark City Stadium here.
The Bacolod City-native concluded the race with a total of 3929 points—754 in 100-meter hurdles, 1214 in high jump, 1643 in shot put, 2405 in 200-meter, 2940 in long jump, 3335 in javelin throw, and 3929 in 800-meter event.
“Of course, I would love to finish higher, but I am happy with my achievement,” the former Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts standout said. “I will just do my best in my remaining events here.”
Finishing ahead of Aguillon are gold medalist Jeanne Arnival of University of Santo Tomas Tiger Tracksters (4373 points) and silver medal winner Tracy Baylon of FEU (4042 points).
Bacolodnon Bernalyn Bejoy of De La Salle University Lady Tracksters took home a gold medal in the women’s 800-meter dash with a time of 2:11.37, defeating Far Eastern University’s Susan Ramadan (2:12.62) and Nicole Diloy (2:16.72).
Bejoy, a standout of Romanito Maravilla National High School, settled for a silver medal finish in the women’s 200-meter dash with 25.07, behind Ilongga Annie Mercurio of FEU, who finished the race in 24.75 seconds.
Mercurio, a native of Carles, Iloilo, also got a silver medal in the women’s 100-meter dash.
Negrense Ann Katherine Quitoy of DLSU finished with a silver medal in the women’s javelin throw event with her 40.19-meter performance, while Sagay City’s Rogen Aguirre captured a silver in the men’s 10,000 meter event.
Adamson University Falcons’ Kent Francis Jardin of Calinog, Iloilo captured two bronze medals in the men’s long jump and 200-meter dash events.
FEU’s Edna Magtubo, a native of Carles, Iloilo, bagged a bronze in the women’s 10,000 meter event, while schoolmate Alfrence Braza of Iloilo City also ended with bronze in the men’s 800-meter event./PN
