Aid to Mt. Kanlaon-affected families top P161-M – NDRRMC

NEGROS Occidental – The amount of assistance provided by the national government and its local counterparts to families severely affected by the explosive eruption of Mt. Kanlaon has reached P161.8 million, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said yesterday, January 6.

The situation report said P52.29 million went to Western Visayas and P109.53 million to Central Visayas.

This assistance included family food packs, hygiene and sleeping kits, modular tents, “sakoline” (waterproof cover) and laminated sacks, generator sets, and financial aid.

Around 7,490 families from Western Visayas were aided while another 2,466 in Central Visayas benefitted from the assistance.

As of this posting, 12,226 families or 46,787 persons residing in 26 villages in the two regions are affected.

Of these, 4,128 families or 13,454 individuals are being sheltered inside 34 evacuation centers while 2,351 families or 7,458 persons are being aided outside. (PNA)
