Airline reminds passengers to check baggage, airport rules amid Holy Week rush

MANILA – Local carrier Cebu Pacific (CEB) has reminded passengers to check the baggage and airport rules so they could avoid hassle, especially this peak season.

Earlier, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced it is expecting an increase in the number of passengers this Holy Week. The country welcomed 5,508,498 domestic and international passengers in April 2018.

In a statement, CEB noted that passengers should allot ample time, be at the airport at least three hours before an international flight schedule, and two hours before a domestic flight.

CEB and the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) both reminded travelers to allot enough time for security inspection and immigration screening.

CEB passengers may opt to check in via web or mobile app.

MIAA and CEB also suggested that passengers must go to the boarding gates right after immigration screening, so the airline would not need to look for them as this may cause flights to be delayed.

Meanwhile, CEB has been stricter in its check-in baggage rules since January.

In a previous interview, CEB spokesperson Charo Lagamon told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) that limiting the baggage allowance aims to make operations more efficient.

“Before, passengers could check in as many pieces of baggage, for as long as they don’t exceed the baggage allowance they purchased.

There were cases when the passenger would check in as much as 10 pieces (of baggage) that total 20 kg.,” she said.

Only one hand-carry bag with a maximum weight of 7 kg. and one small bag – a handbag, laptop bag, purse – are allowed.

Passengers traveling with infants may bring in an additional small bag containing baby food and other necessities.

Medical items like canes, as well as items purchased inside the airport, are also allowed apart from the hand-carry baggage allowance, CEB said. (PNA)
