JUST as the summer travel season kicks into high gear, air travellers are set to pay higher fees when using airports managed by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).
CAAP said it is hiking the passenger service charge (PSC) for international flights to P900 or $17 from P550.
For domestic flights departing from international airports, the fee will be P350. For flights using principal class 1 airports, the fee will be P300; for principal class 2 airports, it will be P200; and P100 for community airports.
“The updated rates are applicable based on the passenger’s airport of departure,” CAAP said.
Exempted from the PSC are overseas Filipino workers going abroad, children below two years old, transit passengers, and passengers who were denied entry.
CAAP said the new rates took effect on Monday, April 21. The agency said the fee hike went through the required public hearing with various stakeholders as well as the necessary publication.
“The adjustment supports CAAP’s efforts to enhance passenger experience and improve airport facilities and operations. The agency is committed to delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality aviation services nationwide,” CAAP said.
The country has more than 40 airports operated by CAAP. Some airports are privately operated, including the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), Clark International Airport, Caticlan Airport, and the Laguindingan International Airport. (ABS-CBN News)
