Ajuy food poisoning victim tests positive for COVID-19

ILOILO – One of the students of Pili National High School in Ajuy, Iloilo confined at the Sara District Hospital due to food poisoning tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Their swab test results were released on Monday night, Nov. 7.

Of the 37 students and three teachers who were victims of food poisoning, 21 students were confined at the Sara District Hospital; the rest were at the Gov. Niel D. Tupas Sr. District Hospital in Barotac Viejo and Ajuy Rural Health Unit.

Since one of the 13 students sharing a room tested positive for COVID-19, the rest of them should also be quarantined as per protocol.

According to Cherry Loyola, one of the students’ guardians, the children were gradually recovering and looking forward to be discharged prior to the release of their swab test results.

On Sunday, Nov. 6, a 17-year-old grade 11 female student of the aforementioned school died due severe dehydration caused by food poisoning.

On Nov. 4, the students held an acquaintance party and United Nations celebration in school, and they had a boodle fight.

According to Ajuy mayor Jett C. Rojas, results of the Sara District Hospital’s fecalysis test on two individuals showed they had amoeba and the suspected cause was the buko pandan juice or the ice added to the said juice./PN
